About ParaMaps
I just wanted to find somewhere strange to visit.
That was genuinely how ParaMaps started.
I’ve always been fascinated by the unexplained – ghosts, witch trials, UFO sightings, cryptids, ancient mysteries and all the strange stories that sit somewhere between history, folklore and the possibility that something very odd really did happen.
But I didn’t only want to read about them. I wanted somewhere tangible to visit.
Where exactly did it happen? Is anything still there? Can I actually access it? And, most importantly, is it worth giving up a day and travelling across the country to see it?
I assumed there would already be a website that could answer those questions.
There wasn’t.
What I found instead was information spread across multiple sites and forums, vague stories with no sources, incorrect map pins and locations that turned out to be private, demolished or nowhere near where the original event happened.
So I started making the thing I had been looking for.
Then the list grew and evolved
ParaMaps is my attempt to bring the UK’s paranormal, unexplained and mysterious locations together in one searchable place – with enough history, context and practical information to help you decide whether you actually want to go.
I’m not here to convince you that every story is true. I want to know what happened, where the story came from and which parts were added somewhere along the way.
If something is documented, I’ll say so. If it’s folklore, I’ll call it folklore. If the evidence is contradictory or simply missing, that belongs in the story too.
I made ParaMaps because I couldn’t find anything like it – and I’m sharing it because I’m fairly certain I’m not the only person who has been looking.
ParaMaps is for anyone who has ever spotted a strange place on a map and immediately wanted to know more.
Whatever brought you here, I hope you find somewhere that sends you down a completely unexpected rabbit hole.
Because that is usually where the best stories begin.
Welcome to ParaMaps. Let’s find somewhere strange.
